Di Resta the top dog for Jaguar

- By JIM McGILL

BATHGATE’S Paul di Resta topped the timesheets at the end of the opening Formula E rookie test in Marrakech, despite the first session being interrupted when a dog ran on to the circuit.

The 31-year-old, driving an all-electric single-seater car for the first time, was making his Jaguar debut.

Di Resta, currently the Williams F1 reserve driver and still in contention to partner Canadian Lance Stroll for the full 2018 grand prix season, clocked the morning’s best time of 1min 22.343secs on 1.8-mile circuit.

“I’m really pleased the way things went,” Di Resta, who finished the morning session 0.090s ahead of the second-fastest car, the Renault-powered Techeetah of England’s James Rossiter, said.

“That’s the first time in my career I’ve had a session stopped because a dog has run on to the circuit. But the marshals dealt with it quickly, and thankfully the dog was uninjured.”
