Boy in quad bike accident

A YOUNG boy is fighting for his life in hospital following a quad bike accident in Glasgow.

Messages of support have flooded in for Keiron Rafferty online, wishing the youngster and his family well as he lies in a critical condition.

The 14-year-old was injured in Summerston on January 11 with unconfirme­d reports suggesting the accident took place in the car park of Asda Maryhill, in Rothes Drive.

Thousands of social media users have shared a Facebook post showing the John Paul Academy pupil in hospital, which contained a message from the youngster’s family warning others of the dangers of not wearing a helmet while on a quad or motorbike.

The post read: “Please always make sure you wear a helmet as this can be the consequenc­es or maybe worse.

“Keiron is your typical young boy - they all like to show off - but is not wearing a helmet really worth your life?

“Please keep Keiron in your thoughts and prayers. He’s our wee fighter.”

Another post shared read: “Thinking and praying for wee Keiron Rafferty. You can do this, little man.”

“Never thought someone like you would ever get into this condition”, read another.

A Police Scotland spokeswoma­n told the Evening Times: “Police were called to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at around 11.35pm to reports that a 14-year-old boy had been injured in Summerston.

“Inquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
