M8 resurfacing warning this weekend

-

A SECTION of the M8 close to Glasgow Airport will be resurfaced this weekend.

Scotland TranServ, as part of Transport Scotland’s strategic trunk road management programme, will resurface 0.8 kilometres of the M8 Eastbound from Junction 29 to 28 near Glasgow Airport.

In order to reduce the impact on local commuters and freight traffic, the works will be carried out under a weekend contraflow system from 8pm on Friday, January 26 to 6am on Monday, January 29.

Alan Murray, Scotland TranServ’s principal road design engi- neer, said: “Scotland TranServ has involved key stakeholders such as Glasgow Airport, Police Scotland and local authorities in the scheduling of this significant project in order to minimise the impact on the travelling public.

“Works have been programmed for a period of low traffic flow, avoiding times of high commuter traffic.

“The contraflow system is necessary to help keep our workers and drivers safe while this short scheme of work is completed.

“This is an important project that delivers long-term improvements to the quality and integrity of this stretch of Scotland’s busiest motorway.”

While the project has been scheduled for a period of lower vehicle volumes, the traffic flow modelling contractor is still forecasting potential delays of up to 40 minutes.

Drivers are asked to plan their journeys with this in mind, particularly those travelling to Glasgow Airport. Live journey-time monitoring will also be carried out during the scheme. Motorists are advised to check my.trafficscotland.org or follow @trafficscotland for the latest trunk road information and estimated journey times prior to starting their journeys.
