Lew ends unluck streak
LEWIS MACLEOD is relieved to have ended his injury jinx after he scored his first goal for Brentford at the weekend.
The former Rangers midfielder has endured a torrid time since making the move to Griffin Park as Mark Warburton completed a deal for him in January 2015.
A series of hamstring injuries and cruciate knee ligament damage have limited him to just 20 appearances for the Bees.
But there was a reason to be cheerful on Saturday as he netted the equaliser for Dean Smith’s side in the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough.
It is the first time the 23-year-old has made the scoresheet since he found the target against Falkirk at Ibrox in 2014.
And the former Gers kid is pleased to have emerged from the most difficult spell of his young career.
“I was starting to question [my bad luck] myself,” Macleod said.
“I think it makes it a lot more special, I’ve been very unlucky with injuries and whatnot. I’ve been doing well in training and I’ve just been waiting to get my chance.
“I’m very pleased, I was surprised that I was starting first and foremost. But when I was given my chance I thought I had done well and I’m delighted to score.
“It’s been massively frustrating, I’ve not had the best of times at the club playing wise, but [on Saturday] it was great to be out there playing again.
“That’s the main thing with such a long injury layoff - the mental side of things. All the boys and the staff have been great with me all the time I was on the sidelines.
“Going into the game, trying to do the best you can do, putting up a performance and I think I’ve done relatively well.
“To be honest the game probably came at a bad time, I’m looking forward to playing more football – we’ve just got to focus on the last few games.”
