A CAR belonging to a knife gang who repeatedly stabbed a man while he was sitting in his friend’s work van has been traced by cops.
The Audi used in the brutal hit on the 30-year-old in Torrance was discovered abandoned on a farm track off the B821, midway between Carbeth and Blanefield at around 10.30am on Wednesday.
Detectives investigating the serious assault will now carry out a full forensic examination on the vehicle, which is a blue Audi A4 with an X registration.
As reported by the Evening Times yesterday, the victim was attacked i n broad daylight in the East Dunbartonshire village on Tuesday at around 5.20pm.
The criminal gang behind the violent and targeted attack boxed him in to carry out the hit.
He was sitting in the passenger seat of the grey Vauxhall Combo van in Queens View where it meets Main Street when a number of men got out of the Audi armed with knives, and proceeded to smash the passenger window and attack him.
The victim’s friend and driver of the van, 34, then drove to Asda in Bishopbriggs, where an ambulance was called.
The victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he is receiving treatment for stab wounds. He remains in a serious but stable condition.
The force appealed yesterday to the public who may have seen the car.
Detective Sergeant Craig Warren said: “I would urge anyone who saw the X registration blue Audi A4 on Tuesday or the morning of Wednesday i n the East Dunbartonshire area where it crosses into Stirlingshire, or to anyone with any information on this vehicle to come forward to police.
“We are working to establish more details on the circumstances surrounding the incident and the motive, however we do believe that this was a targeted attack.
“Officers are gathering CCTV footage from a number of areas and will study the footage to gather any further details.”
