MSP wants action on mesh firms who ignored warnings
A LABOUR MSP has has written to the Lord Advocate, Justice Secretary, and Chief Constable of Police Scotland, to raise the possibility of criminal proceedings against two different surgical mesh manufacturers in Scotland.
Neil Findlay, Lothians MSP, has been campaiging on the issue in theScottish Parliament seeking justice for the many women affected by mesh implants.
Mr Findlay states that the manufacturers have endangered the health, well-being and the lives of the women who have been implanted.
He asked “Is this not a criminal offence? “
In his letter he states: “I hope that you will take immediate action to investigate what has gone on here and proceed with action against companies that have deliberately ignored these warnings.”
The Scottish Government called for the use of mesh implants to be suspended four years ago while an independent safety review was carried out.
But he said about 500 women have had the controversial procedure in Scotland since then.
Last week, the Scottish Parliament’s Public Petitions Committee released a report stating that the use of mesh implants by the NHS should be banned across Scotland entirely.
He wants action against firms that deliberately ignored warnings.
