Murder bid car ‘stolen’

- BY AFTAB ALI

THE car used in a Rutherglen murder bid on a kennel owner was stolen, police have revealed.

However, officers have said they are disappointed with the response to their appeal for information.

A POLICE appeal after a man was shot in the face in a targeted attack has so far had a disappointing response from the public, detectives said.

Officers said they have received very little information since a 37-year-old man, who was later named as Clydebank kennels owner Scott Bennett, who was shot as he sat in his parked van in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, on Monday.

He managed to drive off from the attempted murder bid near Cambuslang and raised the alarm at a nearby restaurant.

They urged anyone who could help the investigation to come forward, while revealing the car used in the murder bid was stolen two months ago.

The victim, who is continuing to receive hospital treatment, was waiting in his white Peugeot van in the car park of Taylor Veterinary Practice in East Kilbride Road at around 5.30pm when a light BMW 3 Series Coupe pulled up beside him.

The passenger in the BMW, who was wearing a high visibility vest, got out and shot him in the face through the window.

The van driver managed to drive off before stopping at the nearby Blue Rupee restaurant, where emergency services were called.

Detective Inspector Alan MacDonald said: “Since my earlier appeal, we have received very little information from the public.

“If you have any information about this brazen attack please get in touch.

“I am also able to say that the car involved, which was found burnt-out in Cathkin Road near to the golf course around 7pm, was a BMW 420i.It had been stolen from the Newton Mearns area on October 11. If you have any information about who stole the car or its movements since it was stolen please come forward.

“I am keeping an open mind about why the man was targeted but I am content that this was not a random attack and he was the intended victim.”
