Uni reveals plans to upgrade student accommodation

-

STUDENT accommodation at Glasgow University will be upgraded next summer.

Renovation work will be carried out to the kitchen areas in the flats at Vasart Place, Monart Place and Caithness Street between June and August 2019.

At least 34 properties are expected to be updated before next year’s students move in.

An inspection was carried out in October which identified problems with the communal kitchen areas and boilers.

Glasgow University has agreed to accelerate maintenance work which will be completed when the buildings are unoccupied.

The accommodation will be satisfactory until that time.

Anne MacGregor, a representative of Glasgow University, said: “There are properties which need to be renovated.

“Until this inspection we weren’t planning to renovate them again.

“We have a window of opportunity to complete this work next summer. The kitchens in the larger flats were last upgraded around six years ago.

“They are still in working order but we are going to incorporate another surface at the bay window, put in more cupboards and install fridge-freezers.

“The kitchens in the smaller flats will be ripped up and replaced completely.”

The application was granted by members.
