McIntyre looks to build on valuable point

JIM McINTYRE hopes the only way is up for Dundee after they moved off the foot of the Premiership with a battling draw against Rangers.

The Dees have been languishing at the wrong end of the standings all season and McIntyre was brought in to replace the sacked Neil McCann in October.

That move is now showing signs of paying off for Dundee as they followed up their midweek hammering of Hamilton with a share of the spoils against Steven Gerrard’s side.

Striker Kenny Miller put the hosts ahead after just seven minutes before Andy Halliday equalised following Nathan Ralph’s red card for a challenge on Daniel Candeias.

Boss McIntyre confirmed he will look to appeal the sending off after the defender was penalised for denying a clean goal-scoring opportunity.

And the 46-year-old was delighted with a point that takes his side above St Mirren and into 11th place in the league.

McIntyre said: “We wanted to make sure they were doing that today, it was an opportunity to get off the bottom.

“We’ve had two or three of them and not managed to take them. So I’m really pleased we managed to do that but still I will reiterate that there’s so much hard work ahead, so many tough games in December for all the clubs. We just have to take one at a time.

“Nobody wants to see themselves sitting at the bottom of the table and we have aspirations to be higher than that but it’s one small step at a time.

“There will be wee waves along the way and it’s about how we react to that, that’s the biggest thing for me.”
