Singer’s struggle after death of star

-

THE Twilight Sad’s James Graham has spoken of how hard it was to sing with Frightened Rabbit at the band’s first gig since the death of lead singer Scott Hutchison.

Scott died by suicide just seven months ago and on Saturday night the rest of the band, including his brother Grant, played at Sleep in the Park.

It was a poignant tribute to Scott and Frightened Rabbit were joined on stage by guest artists, including James.

He said: “I can’t quite describe [the experience on stage] to be honest.

“I could say, ‘It was amazing, it was great’ but what I can say is that it happened.

“I was on stage with my three friends who have been through the worst thing ever and I have been through it too.

“It felt good to sing Scott’s words in front of a crowd and it was hard.

“It will always be hard.

“I still don’t understand what happened and don’t want to understand what happened but tonight we were there together.

“And so many people tonight are together getting each other through what will be a tough thing to do.”

The Twilight Sad had performed earlier in the evening with James saying he had decided to support Social Bite at the request of Grant.

While he wasn’t sleeping out this year, the singer said he would be up for it next year.

He added: “A lot of people are here for Frightened Rabbit and we’re also here to support the charity so there are so many important things about tonight.”
