Muir makes light of ongoing condition after seeing off Robertson in Glasgow

-

SCOTLAND’s Ross Muir made light of an ongoing eye condition to celebrate one of the biggest wins of his career yesterday – as his beaten opponent Neil Robertson apologised for criticising the time he was taking between shots.

The 23-year-old from Edinburgh, who wears a glove whilst playing, has been suffering from an issue called eye migraines in his right eye, something which flares up due to the bright spotlights at snooker venues and forced him to take a medical time-out during the recent UK championships in York. It was a contributory factor behind a 4-2 second round win over the Australian former world champion and holder of this title which took two and a half hours to complete, a contest which Robertson – at that time unaware of the injury – claimed was “a bit of a farce”.

“I think the referee should have stepped in midway through the match and tell Ross to pick up the pace,” said Robertson, who later apologised. “Two and a half hours for six hours of snooker is really hard work, certainly not the way I play the game. Ross did well to win the match but playing like that you are not going to go very far in the game.”

“It’s a very good win,” said Muir. “Neil is a very tough player, a world champion so any win against a world champion is a very good win,” he added. “Sometimes when I am struggling with my eye I need to take a bit more time.”
