McHugh’s desperate to put run together with Well

-

CARL McHUGH insists Motherwell must follow St Johnstone’s lead to haul themselves up the Premiership table.

Motherwell take on in-form St Johnstone tomorrow in Perth and hope to bring Tommy Wright’s charges eightgame unbeaten streak to a halt and kick-start a winning run.

St Johnstone were down in eighth place after being hammered 6-0 by Celtic but since then have picked up 20 points after winning six games and drawing two to jump up to fifth.

Motherwell midfielder McHugh knows Stephen Robinson’s side need to find that level of consistency and believes McDiarmid Park would be the perfect place to start.

McHugh said: “It’s a very tough game, away from home as well. It’s always a tough game against St Johnstone and, at this minute, they are in really good form and they’ve done what us and teams around us are aspiring to do by putting a run of wins together.

“They have managed to string wins together and if you do that, they have shown it can move you up the table quite quickly.

“They have done really well, they were beaten really heavily by Celtic but since then they have kicked on. They have had a level of consistency.

“That has probably been our problem, we’ve played well for two games and then had a really poor game.

“You can talk about it but you need to put the run together. We are fully aware of that. Between now and the winter-break is a huge period for us. It’s such a congested period of fixtures.”
