Jackson intends to stand tall in land of the giants

-

SIMEON JACKSON against the Aberdeen defence doesn’t look like a fair fight on paper but the pint-sized St Mirren forward insists he will give as good as he gets this afternoon.

The Canadian, who reaches 5ft8 on his tiptoes, will likely find Scott McKenna and Andy Considine towering over him in his lone striker role in Paisley.

Jackson is proud to have never received a red card in his career but vowed to never shirk away from a physical encounter against bruising centre-halves.

He said: “I had never been sent off in my life, although people’s first impressions of me might be different. But you have to compete when you are playing up front and against giants. You have to be able to give it out as well. Down south you have some teams that also play physically so I’m used to that side of the game.

“You have got to be clever with defenders. That’s part of the game. Aberdeen are a strong side but they played in midweek so we are hoping to catch them out.”

With Danny Mullen ruled out for two months with a foot injury, the onus is on Jackson to try to score the goals that could lift Saints off the foot of the Premiership table. And the 31 year-old is happy to take on that mantle.

“Playing up front, you are expected to get the goals regardless of what team you play for,” he added. “It is just what comes with the territory really.”
