Young Eddy needs time and help
ODSONNE Edouard is, in football terms, a baby.
He is 20 years old, playing in a foreign land with a record price tag on his back and, I believe, a seriously big talent.
I like him a lot.
It will be interesting to see him progress under Brendan Rodgers who has said the kid is the best young player he’s ever coached, which is saying something.
Edouard is struggling a bit at the moment for form, but he should be cut some slack.
I thought he had a really poor night against Salzburg and he wasn’t much better, if at all, on Sunday.
I could see how frustrated he was when he dived at Easter Road. It wasn’t even a good dive as he attempted to win a penalty.
But you have to expect that with such a young player.
Rodgers saw Moussa Dembele and his £9m summer signing as a partnership, with Leigh Griffiths as the No.3 striker.
But for most of the season it’s been Edouard and that’s it. No wonder he is off the boil. That’s a hard shift for him in every game.
You have to remember that he has scored 13 goals, including the vital winner against RB Leipzig, which is a more than decent return in what his first full season as a pro.
Celtic need to get two more forwards in next month because Edouard needs some help. He’s ran himself into the ground, which wasn’t the plan.
