Armstrong ‘holds key to future at Raith’

-

JOHN McGlynn insists Raith Rovers have done “everything possible” in their bid to hang on to former Wolves winger Daniel Armstrong.

The 21-year-old joined the Kirkcaldy club in November following his departure from the English Premier League outfit in the summer.

The former Hamilton Accies youngster has made a major impact at Stark’s Park and netted a stunning free-kick in the recent win over Arbroath to take his tally to five goals in eight appearances.

With his short-term deal due to expire after the Scottish Cup tie against rivals Dunfermline on January 19, negotiations over a possible new contract have been ongoing for weeks.

However, McGlynn admits the ball is now in Armstrong’s court as the player mulls over his immediate future.

The Rovers manager said: “The club has done everything it possibly can and what will be will be. The club can do no more now.

“I would say that Dan has been very, very good for Raith Rovers and Raith Rovers have been very good for Dan.

“It’s a month since I started speaking to him and I can’t do any more.

“The control is with the player and the agent, and we have to respect that.

“What I’m doing is telling the Raith Rovers fans that the club has met the demands, and we can do no more than do that.

“His contract is not up until after the Dunfermline game, so he’s a Raith Rovers player until after that Scottish Cup tie.

“Hopefully we can get the best out of him between now and then, and Dan can get the best out of us – and then who knows?”
