MEET MORE NEW YEAR BABIES ON
AS thousands were celebrating the start of the New Year across Glasgow, one couple were welcoming their very special first foot.
Valerie McLean, a consultant, from Glasgow, and her husband Grant, celebrated the birth of their baby boy, who arrived 21 minutes after the fireworks went off across the city.
The couple have yet to name the 8lb 1oz tot, who came into the world two weeks ahead of schedule at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
“It’s all still a bit surreal to be honest. I’m thrilled and knackered.” she said, “Especially since it was so early, it wasn’t due for another two weeks. We weren’t expecting it at all, we were planning to go to a New Year’s party but obviously we couldn’t make it.”
Valerie, 30 and Grant, 37, a delivery driver, rushed to the maternity ward on from their home to deliver their 8lb 1oz bundle of joy.
She said: “It was in early on Hogmanay morning when it all kicked off and I was in the hospital by 11:30am.
“He’s our first child and since he’s a few weeks early we haven’t settled on a name yet.”
When asked what she would be doing to celebrate, after missing out on the New Year celebrations, Valerie said:
“We’ll be here possibly today and tomorrow and then we’ll get home and settle into our life as a family. “I need a nap, that’s for sure.” Scotland’s very first New Year babies arrived seconds after the Bells.
Deirdre and Graeme Kelly welcomed Isla, shortly after midnight at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and Paulina Banaszek gave birth to Liliana at St John’s hospital in Livingston during the New Year chimes.
Meanwhile, the first arrival at Ayrshire Maternity Unit checked in at 1.38am am, a 8lb 1oz girl, Fallyn, for Kimberly Reid and Ryan Watson from Dundonald. Fallyn is a sister for Kieran, 7.
Another baby girl was born at 2.21am, Rosie Reid, weighing 9lb 2oz and a daughter to Graeme Reid and Melissa Farrell from Ardrossan.
