Community joy as cafe reopens after shock closure

- BY NIALL CHRISTIE

COMMUNITY leaders have welcomed the reopening of a much-loved Govan cafe.

Just three years on from its initial success, the number of people using the cafe and support services available began to decline, forcing bosses to close the cafe for good. Having been taken over, the cafe is now being run by JS Catering.

Govan residents have shared their delight at the reopening of the important community hub.

Esme Clark, secretary of the area’s Community Council, said: “We are delighted to see it open again and most of all using it. Several of our members are supporters and like to pop in as its such a nice and convenient space.

“The Pearce Institute is something that we cherish and anything that brings more people through its doors is fantastic.

As a result there were fears it the very that they would not re-open at all, with owners posting on social media they were “unsure of the future of the cafe at the current premises”.

However, after the community and other regulars rallied around them, the eatery was open again on Tuesday, with bosses saying they were “forever grateful” for the public’s support.
