Rangers fan cleared of attacking supporter outside Glasgow pub
A RANGERS fan has been cleared of attacking a fellow supporter outside a pub after an Old Firm game.
Jack Fraser, 21, was accused of assaulting John Stillie, 43, outside the Thornwood pub in Glasgow’s Partick area in March last year.
Mr Stillie had been watching Celtic’s 2-3 victory at Ibrox in the pub with his friends before the alleged attack.
Stillie, a cladder by trade, was hospitalised that and required extensive treatment for an eye injury.
Fraser, from the city’s Drumchapel, walked free from at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday after being found not guilty of assaulting Mr Stillie’s to severe injury and permanent impairment.
The court heard Fraser and friend Jordy Edgar, 22, had watched the game in Mr Edgar’s dad’s house.
After the match they planned to meet friends at the Windsor Bar also in Partick.
Mr Stillie told jurors that the pair were “mouthing off” outside and he told them to “f**k off.”
He added: “The two guys started running towards the pub and one went to me with a bottle so I tried to defend myself but he hit me just under my eye.”
Mr Stillie claimed he was knocked to the ground unconscious and didn’t come through until he was treated in the pub.
A 999 call was made and
Mr Stillie was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
He was treated for a fractured eye socket, bruising to the eye, and his pupil didn’t react to light.
He also required four stitches for a wound to his eye and was absent from work for 11 months.
Fraser and Mr Edgar claimed that they were the victim of an attack by people inside the Thornwood pub.
They both admitted to being intoxicated and singing Rangers songs in the street.
The pair told jurors that up to 10 people attacked them for no reason, but escaped with little injuries.
