WINTER was well and truly here but the temperature in Tec Towers had reached boiling point.
“Useless piece of garbage,” I roared in frustration as I held the two halves of the car scraper up. “You can get out and do it next time,” I shouted unconvincingly to the Moll.
“Maybe I will,” she replied as she painted her nails before glancing out the window and calmly adding, “I’d probably finish the job too…” I took a deep breath. “Here, give me that scraper and I’ll show you how it should be done,” she followed-up.
“No, it’s fine, just get your coat and let’s go,” I said.
Before we knew it, the Moll was finishing her nails in the Buick, while
I found myself scraping away the rest of the ice on the windscreen with nothing more than the gloves I was wearing.
“How has this happened?”, I thought, reflecting on another defeat at the hands of the mind-trick master.
We eventually got going and after a short ride, we pulled up on Uddingston Main Street and in front of the restaurant, Yokoso.
We went inside and were shown to our table by a friendly waitress who kindly complimented how we looked, which was a very nice touch, and handed us the menu.
For her starter, Goldilocks chose the chicken gyoza, which were Japanese dumplings that had been steamed and fried and came with a soy dipping sauce. The four pieces of gyoza were soft to bite with a very slight crisp and they were very tasty with the sweet and salty dip.
I went for the hirata buns, which were steamed and came with a tasty shredded pork filling, complimented with hot sriracha sauce and coleslaw, which took the edge off the heat.
It was a great start to the meal, although we had a longer than expected wait for our next course.
When the mains did come, the Moll had picked the beef yakisoba noodles, while I went for the chicken firecracker curry. The yakisoba dish was served with soba noodles, cabbage, carrots, spring onions, edamame, onion, peppers, mushrooms and yakisoba sauce. The noodles were light, the veg had a slight crunch and the sweet and salty yakisoba sauce brought it all together beautifully.
The curry was made with peppers, asparagus, spring onions, and chillies, which had been soaked in a really flavoursome sweet and spicy marinade. Again, the veg was cooked to perfection with a slight crunch and a gradual heat from the chillies. The sweet and sour flavours really came through and it was all served with lovely jasmine rice.
Our first visit to Yokoso was a real success, with top class food, great service and a really pleasant atmosphere.
