McGregor lashes out after ‘robbery’ claims

-

LEE McGREGOR has hit back at claims Kash Farooq was robbed after watching Saturday’s controversial fight back on television.

The deciding judge scored the bout 115-112 as McGregor inflicted a first loss on Farooq and added his British bantamweight belt to his Commonwealth title.

However, Farooq’s corner were furious with the outcome and former superfeatherweight champion Ian McLeod, part of the 23 yearold’s management team, said: “That’s a robbery in anyone’s language.”

BBC co-commentator and former world champion Alex Arthur also thought Farooq had done enough but McGregor is adamant he was the worthy winner.

He said: “I’ve watched the fight back and still have the same thoughts as on fight night. It was a very close fight and the first two judges with a round in it either way for us was totally what we were expecting, yes 115-112 is wide – especially with the the point deduction.

“I’ve seen some robberies in boxing and Saturday night’s fight was simply not that.

“For anyone who’s still unsure about it watch it back and if you watch it on BBC

Scotland maybe mute the commentary, so many close rounds that could definitely have gone either way.

“Championship rounds is what won me that fight!

“Rounds 10, 11 and 12 I fought like a champion and just simply would not give in.

“Nevertheless huge respect to Kash Farooq, a serious fighter and I’m sure our paths are definitely going to meet again.”
