Caring manager wins national award

A GLASGOW care home manager who is “dedicated to his job” has won a prestigious national award.

Eric Cordiner, unit manager of Four Hills in Ruchill, has been crowned winner of the Palliative and End of Life Care Practice category at the Scottish Care Awards.

The awards, held recently at the Hilton and hosted by singer and presenter Michelle McManus, promote best practice within the home care and care home sectors.

For the last 15 years, the event has paid tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

Eric’s hard work and dedication to the people of Four Hills were recognised by the judges, who said: “Eric is a devoted unit manager who has contributed to the success of the home.

“He takes a lot of pride in knowing his residents well, and keeping up the staff morale so that challenging days feel easier.

“Well done Eric on this welldeserved award.”

Eric said: “Working in a care home can have challenging moments, but it is all worth it when you win an award like this.

“I wish to thank my team and my peers for their support, particularly the staff at Four Hills who nominated me and all my lovely residents and families.”

He added: “I hope I have done them proud.”

Divisional Director Fiona Fagan said: “The Division and Region are immensely proud of Eric’s achievement in being awarded the palliative and end of life care practice.”

Four Hills care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which has been operating across the country for 25 years.

It provides nursing care, including respite care and long-term stays, for 120 residents.
