City taxpayers being robbed by vile fly-tipping: Report reveals worst areas

NEVER commented on this site before but felt compelled by this article. I live in East Pollokshields where the problem is enormous.

About four years ago we received a notice from the council saying bulk uplifts would occur every Friday and to leave rubbish to be collected on the street on Friday morning.

Nothing has been received since. It is still ongoing? Sometimes rubbish left is uplifted on a Friday, sometimes not. It is impossible to reach anyone on the phone to confirm – council website is deliberately designed for that purpose.

We booked a collection recently for items that would not fit in our car. We were told to leave items on the street and they would be collected in a month – surely not, but again no-one to contact.

Assumed we would hear more prior to pick-up but received an email a month later saying items had been successfully collected – disagree, they’re still in our cellar! No avenue to contact the council once again.

Plenty of people out there who don’t care about any of this, but for those of us who do the council really needs to up their game before blaming residents.

WANT to stop fly-tipping? Then go back to the days when you phoned the council to uplift large items.

Fly-tipping came in to being when Brussels ordered massive charge hikes to dispose of rubbish at landfill sites. I don’t recall much of a problem before that.

PUT cameras where we can see who is doing this and there again they get a slap on the wrist as the courts can’t keep up with offenders.
