Police hunt for bookies raider

A THUG made off with hundreds of pounds after raiding a bookmaker in Glasgow.

Police are appealing for informatio­n after the incident in the Alexandra Parade Ladbrokes on Wednesday night.

Officers say a man entered the shop at 4.20pm and demanded money.

He then made off a threefigur­e sum of cash.

Staff were left shocked by the incident but no-one was physically hurt.

Police say the suspect is described as white, in his 40s and heavy build.

He was wearing a hooded top, dark trousers and skip cap.

He left the shop and ran off towards Meadowpark Street.

A spokespers­on for the force said: “Anyone with any informatio­n should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting 2375 of December 18 or speak to any police officers.”

THE former Royal Bank of Scotland building on Trongate will be demolished, it has been confirmed. Glasgow City Council has approved an applicatio­n to bring down the building, and ground floor shops, as well as the Oriental Bar on Hutcheson Street.

The applicant is planning to build a 157-bed hotel, pub and shops on the site, which it hopes will be a catalyst for more developmen­t in the area.

“A new building in this location will help contribute towards improved social cohesion which will have economic benefits for the Trongate area and the wider context of Glasgow,” a report on behalf of applicant Caledon Property Group states.

“The upper floors of the former RBS have been vacant for some time since closure and the ground floor retail units have also spent a large amount of time vacant.
