GLASGOW FAMILIES ARE IN THE MONEY
People’s Postcode Lottery dishes out thousands to locals
LIVING in the right postcode has proved lucky for thousands of Glaswegians this year who have all scooped big prizes in a national competition.
Players of People’s Postcode Lottery in the city have won a share of £1,593,080 between them.
A £30,000 prize went to 11 Glaswegians during the course of 2019, including Gibson Lees and his partner Helen.
They scooped the money in August through their G14 0HE postcode in Yoker.
Gibson said: “Ya dancer! I’m dumbstruck, I don’t even know what to say.
“The kids and grandkids will be as happy as Larry.
“Our son stays in New Jersey so this will help us visit him next year.”
A neighbour of Gibson and Helen, Kimberly Chalmers, also won £30,000.
She said: “Holidays, holidays, holidays!
“I can go to Mexico! I really wasn’t expecting such a big amount so I can’t think past that right now.
“I check every month to see which charities have received money. It’s a great feeling to know that I can win and they do too.”
A minimum of 32% of ticket sales goes directly to charities and players of People’s Postcode Lottery have helped raise more than £500million to date for good causes across Great Britain and internationally, including projects in Glasgow.
Cancer support charity Maggie’s has received more than £14.2m from players of the lottery to date.
With eight centres in Scotland, including one in Glasgow, many locals have befitted thanks to player support.
Danyl Johnson, ambassador for the People’s Postcode Lottery, commented: “It’s been an amazing year for all our players, including those in Glasgow that have won a share of more than £1.5m.
“Meeting players like Gibson and Kimberly make handing these prizes out even more special and I can’t wait to surprise more winners throughout 2020 across Great Britain!”
