Teens held after police chase ends in crash

THREE teenagers have been arrested following a police chase from Glasgow city centre to the East End that resulted in a road crash. Dalmarnock Road was closed off following the three-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon.

The force said the reason the pursuit was in response an investigat­ion that began Glasgow city centre.

Officers responded to suspicious activity in an undisclose­d city centre location. The force provided no further details about the incident they were called to.

As part of their investigat­ion, officers traced a blue van in the East End which they say failed to stop.

A short police chase happened before the van crashed on Dalmarnock Road at the Clyde Gateway.

Officers then arrested three male teens, whose ages are unknown, and are still looking for a fourth suspect.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash and a number of people were checked over for minor injuries. Two people went to the hospital of their own accord.

The Glasgow Times understand­s that an off-duty police officer and member of the force’s staff were in a hire car involved in the crash. The road is close to Police Scotland’s headquarte­rs in Dalmarnock’s French Street.

Dalmarnock Road closed for several hours between the Clyde Gateway and Springfiel­d Road resulting in congestion in surroundin­g streets.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 1.55pm on Friday, January 10, police were responding to reports of suspicious activity in the city centre of Glasgow.

“A short time later police traced for to in a blue van believed to be connected in the East of the city.

“The van failed to stop short pursuit occurred.

“The van then crashed into three vehicles on the Clyde Gateway.

“Emergency services attended and a number of people were checked over for minor injuries.

“Two people went to the hospital of their own accord as a precaution. The road was due to be cleared.

“Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with the incident. Inquiries to establish the full circumstan­ces surroundin­g this incident are ongoing.” and
