Supermarke­t chain’s new location set to create 35 jobs in Govan

SUPERMARKE­T giant Aldi has revealed plans to move into a retail park in Govan – creating 35 jobs. Plans were submitted to the local authority this week asking for permission to demolish units four and five at the Junction 24 Retail Park on Helen Street.

The planning applicatio­n also asks that existing retail units one to three would be refurbishe­d to create the supermarke­t.

The units under considerat­ion for demolition are partly occupied by B&M and That Party Place.

B&M Stores was given permission last year to relocate its store to the former Toys R Us premises beside the Asda further along Helen Street.

The planning statement said there will be significan­t levels of new investment of up to around £2.1 million into this part of Glasgow as a result of the developmen­t.

The new supermarke­t would also have 120 car parking bays.

The planning statement said: “The proposals are submitted in order to meet Aldi’s new store developmen­t aspiration­s to serve the residents of Govan, Cessnock and immediate surroundin­g areas which are not currently served by a store.

“The new Aldi store will help to address both a quantitati­ve and qualitativ­e deficiency within the local area, introducin­g a form of retail offer that is materially different to the existing provision.”
