£110,000 drug run man jailed

-

A MAN who travelled 219 miles to deliver £110,000 of drugs is now behind bars.

Lee Powell made the journey in a hired van from Liverpool to Glasgow with cannabis in June 2017.

The 42-year-old dad was caught in the act giving 11kg of the herbal drug to two men by police officers.

Powell was locked up after pleading guilty yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to being concerned in the supply of cannabis.

He will be sentenced next month.

The court heard the police received intelligence about a possible drug deal.

Officers attended Bardovie Road in the city’s Cardonald to see three men conversing between an Audi car and a van.

A cardboard box and a carrier bag was spotted being locked inside the Audi before the trio left in the van.

Powell later returned to the scene with another man before being arrested and subject to a search.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “In the cardboard box contained eight vacuum-sealed bags containing herbal cannabis. They also recovered two further vacuum-sealed bags weighing 11 kilos altogether. The value is estimated at £38,000 wholesale and £110,000 in street value.”

It was also discovered that Powell had hired the van from Liverpool a week before the drug deal.

Powell was quizzed before being released from custody pending his court date but was later subject of a warrant.

Lawyer Michael Poggi, defending, told the court Powell had been working in Japan in the hospitality industry.

Sheriff Jones called for background reports on Powell, of Liverpool.
