Band’s heroic effort to help sick children
AGLASGOW rock-ceilidh band famed for their contemporary take on traditional Scottish music has released a song celebrating the NHS Covid effort that will raise money for sick kids.
Bahookie has launched Heroes on Spotify and iTunes and all major streaming services, with proceeds to go to The Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
The band, best-known for mashing fiddles with urban dance and rock grooves, is hoping their new release will make a big impact as a tribute to the doctors and nurses who have helped the country deal with coronavirus.
Frontman Neil Thompson said: “I’ve wanted Bahookie to release a song for years but as we’re so busy gigging, I’ve just never had the time to write it – I’ve now had that time funnily enough.
“This current situation has made me appreciate the bravery of so many people in our society.
“Our NHS are incredible and the dedication they’ve shown is why our health service is respected all across the world.
“But there are unsung heroes that keep the country functioning that also deserve so much praise. “All those elements gave me the background for writing Heroes.
“With the lyrics, firstly I just wanted to celebrate how music can bring us all together, to sing a chorus that felt great to sing and listen to, something memorable that just summed up the love we have for everyone out there every day being brave to keep us all protected. I wanted the song to also describe the harsh reality of what doctors and nurses face every day.”
Members of the extended Bahookie family each recorded their parts at home, before the vocals, drums, bass, guitar, fiddle were produced by live sound engineer Jason Hull.
Later this year the band will travel to Bahrain to perform for fans there for the first time. Comprised of players from the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow.
“As for everyone, Lockdown has been about re-writing the norm,” explains Neil. “In times like these, being in a band comes second to what is really important in life.
“It’s about appreciating your family and friends and the amazing courage of the brave people that risk their health and safety every day to venture out the house to keep everyone across the nation safe.
