Gerrard not happy with easing off

STEVEN GERRARD will demand further improvement from Rangers after seeing them move top of the table with a 3-0 victory over St Johnstone.

Goals from Borna Barisic, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo clinched a third successive Premiership win for Gerrard’s side and ensured they extended their advantage over Celtic to five points.

Rangers have a chance to potentially move 11 clear in the title race as they face Livingston and Kilmarnock while Celtic are banned from playing following Boli Bolingoli’s Coronavirus breach.

But Gerrard – who confirmed defender Leon Balogun is a doubt for the clash with Livingston after being forced off with a quad knock – downplayed the significance of his side moving into top spot in the standings.

He said: “I thought we got really sloppy at 3-0. We let the game die instead of maintaining our standards. Over the course of the 90 minutes, we turned the ball over too much. So there is still a lot to work on.

“You probably think I’m a moaner but even though we won the game comfortably 3-0, we can still learn a lot collectively and as individuals. We just need to focus on what we are doing here and try to win as many football matches as we can.

“We have another tough test coming at Livingston on Sunday. Tonight was our fourth game in 11 days and I made a lot of subs in the second half, so I’ll take my part in the game going flat and sloppy. We never played like a top team at 3-0, we let the game fizzle out. We complicated a game which should have been easily managed.”
