Ajeti jets in to Glasgow to seal move to Parkhead

- MATTHEW LINDSAY

SWITZERLAND striker Albian Ajeti arrived in Glasgow yesterday to finalise his move to Celtic as Vakoun Issouf Bayo left for French second-tier club Toulouse on a season-long loan.

Ajeti, who was signed for West Ham by Manuel Pellegrini in an £8m transfer last year just before the Chilean manager was sacked and replace by David Moyes, has hardly featured in the Premier League.

He made just 12 first team appearances for the London Stadium club in the 2019/20 season and failed to find the target in any of them.

But Parkhead manager Neil Lennon rates the 6ft 23-yearold highly and believes he can help his side’s bid to qualify for the Champions League and win a 10th consecutive Scottish title this season.

The former Basel, Augsburg and St Gallen forward has won 10 caps for his country and scored one goal since making his international debut two years ago. He will team up with his former Basel team mate Mohamed Elyounoussi, the Norwegian winger who returned to Celtic on loan from Southampton this summer, once he completes his switch to Scotland.

He will not, however, be joining forces with Bayo, the Ivorian who joined Celtic from Slovakian club Dunajska Streda last January, as the striker has moved to Ligue 2 club Toulouse for the season.

The 23-year-old has been troubled by injuries since signing for Celtic and has only played in 15 first team games in the last season and a half.

Bayo scored in cup games against Partick Thistle and Clyde last season, but was unable to hold down a regular place in Lennon’s side.
