Harley hopes Glasgow end season on a high note

-

ROB Harley is confident that Glasgow have learned the lessons of last week’s defeat by Edinburgh and can sign this season off on a high when the teams meet again tomorrow.

The Warriors’ last lingering hopes of a PRO14 play- off place were dashed by Saturday’s 30- 15 loss, in which they dominated much of the game but were outplayed in the final quarter. As they are out of Europe, too, their next competitive match will not be until the start of the new league campaign on the first weekend of October – something that has increased their desire to turn the tables on their old rivals at Murrayfield, according to the back- row forward.

“Playing in derby matches does mean a bit more,” Harley said. “So it would be great to go out and get a win, and that would set us up well just to have a little bit of time off and prepare for next season.

“We’re pretty confident. I think there’s some clear pictures from that game where early on, especially at the breakdown, we made a lot of mistakes. They were sharper than us there.

“Credit to Edinburgh, because they pressured us and they forced some of those errors.”

Away from the pitch, Harley is studying for a degree in Classics from the Open University.

“A few of the other players have criticised me for not doing something specific and career- focused, but I essentially picked something I was interested in and thought I would study and get a degree at the end of it,” he said. “[ Lockdown] gave me the chance to focus on the studies.”
