Covid linked to another school while Sturgeon calls for calm
AFRESH case of Covid- 19 has been linked to a city centre school. Health bosses have confirmed they are carrying out Test and Protect procedures at St Aloysius’ College, on Hill Street.
There is no evidence of transmission within the school itself and no further details have been released by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
A spokesman for the health board said: “Public Health, education departments and Council environmental health teams are working together to support the school and families affected.
“Within the school, Public Health teams have systematically established a list of close contacts. Test and Protect staff are contacting those identified as contacts. These close contacts are being advised to self- isolate and being given appropriate advice and support.
“Robust control measures are in place within the school. Apart from those who are identified as close contacts, all other pupils and staff can continue to attend as normal.
“We ask the public to remain vigilant. The general measures to minimise the risk of Covid- 19 remain the same – social distancing, regular hand washing, and being on the look- out for symptoms.”
The news came on the day Nicola Sturgeon called for calm over an increase in Scotland’s Covid- 19 cases.
While no new coronavirus deaths were reported overnight between Saturday and yesterday, official figures show a further 123 people tested positive for the virus.
Statistics published on the Scottish Government website show that it takes the total number of cases in the country to 20,318.
The number of new cases is 0.7 per cent of those tested, the same as the day before.
A total of 2,494 patients have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus.
Six of the new cases are in the Grampian health board area, 39 in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 26 in Lanarkshire and seven in Tayside.
There are 255 people in hospital with confirmed or suspected Covid- 19, an decrease of three in 24 hours.
Of these patients, five were in intensive care, the same figure as the previous day.
The First Minister wrote on Twitter yesterday: “123 Covid cases reported today.
“The circumstances and any connections/ patterns are being closely examined, and Test & Protect is working hard to break transmission chains.
“While the increase is of course a worry, it is important to note that the positivity rate remains below one per cent.”
