VANDALS TARGET STADIUM WITH ANTI- ISRAEL GRAFFITI

- BY JACK HAUGH

THIS wa s t he s c ene yesterday morning when ant i - I s ra el i g r a f f i t i appeared on the side of a Glasgow football stadium. A clean- up operation was underway outside Partick Thistle’s Firhill home after vandals scrawled “Palestinian Blood” and threw red paint on the walls.

The ground hosted the Israeli national team this week for training ahead of the side’s clash with Scotland at Hampden last night.

A spokesman for Partick Thistle said: “We are extremely disappointed that our stadium has been vandalised in this way. The matter is now in the hands of police.

“For many years, we have made Firhill available for hire when requested by the Scottish FA – this not only helps visiting international teams, but it provides valuable income to Thistle.

“Until now this facility has been utilised by those without any issue, which only makes this unwarranted vandalism even more disappointing.”

Pro- Palestinian campaigners previously protested outside Hampden when Scotland welcomed Israel last month as part of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Vandals also daubed the words “Palestinian blood” on a wall outside the national stadium at the time and covered the ground in red paint in protest.

Officers were on the scene in the West End yesterday morning as club staff worked to clean up the side of the stadium.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We received a report of vandalism at Firhill Stadium, Glasgow, around 12.10am on Thursday, October 8, 2020.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

We are so disappointed... Until now this facility has been used without any issues
