Food truck searches for new city home
ASOUTH SIDE- BASED vegan food truck is looking for a new home. Trusty Bucks is looking to move into a” bricks and mortar” premises, after operating out of owner Hugh Kearns’ Pollokshields driveway for the past few months.
Hugh said: “The main issue with where we are now is that the area we are in is a residential area, and with the deliveries coming and going, it can be disruptive.
“We also had the fact that the seasons are changing.
“I feel like I don’t want to my guys to have to work from a food truck in the driveway in the middle of winter, so I want to be able to get in somewhere by then.”
Trusty Bucks is hoping to find a new home by the end of the month and increase its capacity, which has been stretched since the start of the pandemic in March.
Hugh said: “We’ve seen business become busier so it just makes sense for us to find a more permanent home.
“I’ve been surprised at how difficult it is to find somewhere.
“We are operating as a deliveryonly business so I understand that there will be deliveries guys coming and going but we aren’t looking for a space that includes a sit- in area.
“Working over the past few months, it’s become ovbious to us that doing delivery feels like the only safe route that would allow us to operate as normal.”
The food has become a favourite of Glaswegians all over the city, offering vegan creations, and even during the pandemic ran a competition for NHS and key workers to win free food.
Now the food truck is looking to expand its reach, while also relying on the new premises to keep the truck in business.
Hugh said: “We aren’t looking specifically to staying South Side – just somewhere that is close to transport.
“Our only hope at this stage looks like finding either an existing business premise that is willing to rent us some space, or a suitable private property that could accommodate us.
“For a company that has continued to grow and employ more people, despite the coronavirus outbreak, I’ll be devastated if we lose everything we have worked for.”
