Gerrard salutes Covid efforts
Rangers manager disagrees with Lennon’s complaint
STEVEN GERRARD insists he has been ‘impressed’ with the efforts that Scottish football has made to ensure the game can operate safely throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon provoked angry responses from St Johnstone and Hamilton Accies this week after voicing his concerns over the protocols in place at McDiarmid Park and the FOYS Stadium this term.
Those comments were added to by Aberdeen counterpart Derek McInnes as he revealed he had raised worries over the facilities at some grounds as the Joint Response Group asked all clubs in the Premiership and Championship to conduct a review of their procedures.
But Ibrox manager Gerrard has praised the work that has gone in across the country as
Scottish football looks to finish off a unique and challenging campaign in the coming weeks.
Gerrard said: “No, I’ve been very much satisfied. You can see all the efforts across the board, everyone doing what they can in their own situation – going above and beyond to try and make it as safe as possible for everyone visiting the grounds.
“It’s not my business to comment on what other clubs are doing but I have been impressed with the effort everyone has tried to make.
“Our focus has been very much on trying to make Rangers the safest place for people to come in and give them the best areas to keep them as well as we can. “I’ve been incredibly impressed with our medical department, led by Dr Waller, in terms of what they have done throughout this pandemic to make Rangers the best and safest place for our own staff and players, but also people coming in from a distance as well.” Rangers hosts Ross County this afternoon aiming to extend their unbeaten Premiership run and move a step closer to a first title win in a decade. The absence of the home crowd has been noticeable throughout the season but Gerrard is proud of their impressive record at Ibrox that sees Rangers unbeaten in 15 outings this term.
Gerrard said: “When we came into the job, we made it clear to every player who represents us that Ibrox is our home and you have to do everything you can to protect that.
“We want to make it the most difficult place to come, whether that be domestically or in Europe.
“We’ve got better at that. We always speak about that relentlessness and hunger to be a really strong home team.”
