Swinney set to face vote of no confidence

- BY HAMISH MORRISON

THE Scottish Tories will this week lodge a motion of no confidence in Deputy First Minister John Swinney over the publication of legal advice, the party has announced.

On two occasions, MSPs have voted to compel the Scottish Government to produce legal advice taken as part of the legal challenge brought by Alex Salmond over its harassment complaints procedure, but ministers have so far not handed the advice over.

It is understood that the Greens – who could tip the balance – will wait to see what is said in the motion before making a decision.

THUGGISH vandals drove a Maryhill takeaway out of business after a series of attacks on their premises, its owner has claimed. CJ’s Food to Go has been closed permanently after “lowlife” vandals wrecked the Maryhill Road premises with sledgehammers in what is thought to be a targeted attack.

In a post to Facebook, the eatery’s owner said: “CJ’s as we know it has come to an end. We gave it out best shot but these lowlife scum tried to tarnish our name.

“It’s with a heavy heart we say goodbye for now and we look forward to seeing you all again one day soon.”

We told previously how the shop had been targeted in the past by louts who splashed paint over the shop’s front.

A source said at the time: “It’s the second time they have been targeted, they had paint thrown over their shutters recently.”

Devastated customers responded to the revelation from CJ’s bosses.

Thomas Docherty said: “Sorry to hear you’re going and the cowardly bullying thugs got their way. Hopefully they will get their day.”

Debbie O’Hara called the takeaway the “best food on Maryhill Road” and wished the team the best for the future.

Karen McKay said: “Absolutely gutted for you but you have to do the right thing for yourself because scum like this would only keep harassing you.

“At least you know you’re going out with your head held high and having done a good job.”

A police investigation into the sledgehammer attack is under way.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Officers attended at a shop premises at Maryhill Road in Glasgow at 12.50pm on Wednesday, February 17, following reports of vandalism. Enquiries are ongoing.”
