Warning as house party numbers rise
DRUMCHAPEL revellers have been warned to avoid illegal gatherings as the number of house parties begins to rise. Officers revealed the incidents were on the increase across the Drumchapel and Anniesland ward following the easing of some restrictions last month.
It’s understood elected members were informed the events are taking place at a number of properties hired out via Airbnb.
The most recent data shows four people have been arrested for attending a house party since August last year across the north west of Glasgow.
A total of 1250 gatherings were dispersed when informed by police, while another 551 were dispersed when instructed.
There were only two incidents throughout the area where officers were required to disperse using “reasonable force”.
Police issued a total of 675 fixed penalty notices.
Councillor Elspeth Kerr said: “It is an extremely hard time for all, and I understand the feeling of being ‘forever in lockdown’ however, it is vital to continue to follow the rules set out by the Scottish Government.
“This is the only way we can continue to slow down the infection rates of this pandemic and continue to see less of our loved ones suffering.
“Please continue to follow the rules and hopefully this will lead to us all enjoying a better and brighter summertime.”
Glasgow has already been ranked the house party capital of Scotland.
Since legislation was introduced on August 23, more than 5000 events have been reported to police.
Councillor Bailie Anne McTaggart said: “The coronavirus road to recovery still has a fair bit to travel yet before we can all get back into some form of normality, please be careful and be mindful of others.
“The regulations, I’m sure, will be lifted as soon as they are safe to be. Please remember the progress we have all made so far.
“Covid-19 is, unfortunately, still around us and is deadly – many families will testify to that.”
