Hibs move an easy decision for Mackay

- JAMES CAIRNEY

DANIEL Mackay insists signing for Hibs was a no-brainer because of the particular brand of football on offer at Easter Road under Jack Ross.

The 20-year-old winger yesterday put pen to paper on a four-year deal in Leith, departing Inverness with immediate effect after an impressive breakthrough campaign in the Highlands.

Mackay scored seven goals and provided another two in 24 Championship outings this term, convincing Ross to make his move and snap up the talented youngster on a free transfer.

Now that he has his foot in the door, Mackay has designs on winning silverware with the Hibees – adding that the style of play employed by Ross should bring the best out of him.

“I just saw the way the manager has been playing football,” he told the Hibernian website. “It’s brilliant, both the way Hibs play football and the way the manager wants to play football.

“And having come and seen the facilities, it made me want to come to the club even more. It’s a massive club in a massive city, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

After coming through the youth ranks at the Caley Jags, comparisons with Scotland internationalist Ryan Christie are inevitable for Mackay. But the winger says he sees more of himself in Hibs winger Martin Boyle than the Celtic playmaker.

Mackay continued: “I’ve been at Inverness since I was a young boy, I’ve come through the youth team, made my debut at 16 and now kicked on a wee bit since then to get my move here, so I’m looking forward to the challenge.

“To be honest I’m more of a pacey winger like Martin Boyle, but hopefully I can add something different to the team and hopefully add a few goals as well.”
