FM must concentrate on resolving current woes

- EK Crookston Daniel Harris Via email

IHAVE just read an article in which Nicola Sturgeon announced at Glasgow Caledonian University that from January 31, under 22s will be eligible for free bus travel. This sounds absolutely great.

Can I therefore ask Nicola Sturgeon exactly how does Scotland manage to ‘pay for this added expense considering the state Scotland is in at the moment? Or is this an SNP ploy to get votes from the under 22s at the next election? I hope the under 22s wake up and smell the coffee.

Nicola, consider for a moment the overall state you have let Scotland get into. The crime rate for a start in Scotland is now at an all-time high, because we do not have enough police to control this situation. Scotland has the highest drug addiction rate, again we do not have the facilities to help these people. Our NHS hospitals are at breaking point they have told your government on numerous occasions they do not have enough beds to treat urgent patients. They also do not have enough consultants, doctors or nurses to help this situation.

No wonder our waiting lists and hospital procedures are so long. It’s a pathetic and disgraceful situation you have allowed Scotland to get into.

Look at the condition our roads are in, they are full of potholes causing damage to motorists.

Our central reservation and pavements are overgrown with weeds, senior citizens who used to have their gardens attended to by the relevant councils are now totally overgrown due to government cuts, again it’s a total disgrace. Our cleansing waste removals service has been drastically cut – causing overflows to our bins and now in some areas have rat infestations. Primary and secondary school teachers are constantly asking for more help which seems to fall on deaf ears.

I just wish for once Nicola Sturgeon would get her act together and concentrate to resolve these current situations which would put a lot of people out of their misery. Let’s just say I’m not holding my breath.

NOW that Bonfire Night is over, will the council stop using outside contractors to empty bins?

HAVING just read Vicky Allan’s article in Saturday’s paper on Glasgow’s carbon past, present and future, I wish to tender my thanks to her for the well-balanced and excellent coverage she gave to the issue of Global Warming. No holding back. Great stuff.
