ROYAL TALE AT CITY PRIMARY

- BY CATRIONA STEWART

IT was a very special story time at this Glasgow primary school as the Duchess of Rothesay visited to gift a copy of a new book. Her Royal Highness met with pupils at Wallacewell Primary and presented them with a copy of It’s Up To Us, a new children’s climate change book.

Camilla also took part in a workshop inspired by naturebased learning at Dumfries House, the Ayrshire property saved and regenerated by Prince Charles.

Rachel Binnie, head teacher at the Robroyston school, said: “Having HRH The Duchess of Rothesay come to visit the school during COP26 was incredibly exciting for our pupils.

“We were delighted that HRH was able to present us with a copy of It’s Up to Us, following the workshop our pupils took part in with The Prince’s Foundation.

“The book reinforces the message that we are all responsible for taking care of the planet.”

It’s Up to Us was released by The Prince’s Foundation to coincide with COP26.

During the visit, Her Royal Highness met pupils to hear about how they are incorporating the issues highlighted at COP26 into their day-to-day learning.

The royal also attended a sustainability workshop led by The Prince’s Foundation’s education director Jacqueline Farrell and It’s Up to Us author Christopher Lloyd.

During the workshop, which was inspired by the book and the nature-based learning delivered at Dumfries House, Christopher and Jacqueline gave pupils from across the school the opportunity to engage in a highly-interactive journey through 4 billion years of the earth’s history.

Pupils looked at how the planet’s climate has changed naturally, alongside the effects of human civilisation.

Jacqueline and Christopher explained what pupils could do in their everyday lives to help halt the climate crisis and promote sustainability, and encouraged them to think about changes they could make to benefit the planet.
