Rangers ratings
ALLAN MCGREGOR
Wasn’t tested until 53 minutes in when he punched clear a fierce Christian Nkunku strike. Denied Tyler Adams too but wrongfooted by Angelino’s volley.
JAMES TAVERNIER
Forced into a much more quiet night on the attacking front but was still among the most advanced when Rangers threatened. Sound defensively.
CONNOR GOLDSON
A tremendous and vitally important challenge on Conrad Laimer after 18 minutes summed up his night. A towering display against threatening hosts.
CALVIN BASSEY
Deployed at centre-back the Nigerian continues to impress. Powerful in the air and in the tackle and burst out of defence to give his team breathing space.
BORNA BARISIC
Looked nervous in the first half but grew into the match and linked well with Kent in the second. A steady performance but restricted in attack.
JOHN LUNDSTRAM
Moved back into the back five and showed his defensive ability. Some crucial blocks and clearances as part of a resolute backline.
GLEN KAMARA
Looked composed on the ball in a nervy opening period with Leipzig piling on the pressure. Threw himself into challenges and offered a cool head.
RYAN JACK
Went about his defensive duties well at a difficult venue. Did the unseen work in the midfield and was very disciplined in his positioning all night long.
SCOTT WRIGHT
Not the night he’d have hoped for. Given a major opportunity but struggled to offer any real threat going forward. Starved of service and reduced to pressing.
RYAN KENT
A big part of anything good going forward. Earned priceless free-kicks. Came close to an opener but was slow to press Angelino for the winner.
JOE ARIBO
Quieter in the first half when Rangers were pinned back. A key player in the second as he served as a target-man of sorts to haul his side forward.
Offered some energy in closing minutes but didn’t have any real possession.
James Sands (for Aribo, 83)
Thrown into the midfield for the final few minutes.
