Tavernier vows to do everything to make final

- CHRIS JACK

JAMES TAVERNIER has vowed Rangers will give “absolutely everything” to overcome RB Leipzig and book their place in the Europa League final.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side will have to overturn a narrow deficit on Thursday after a 1-0 defeat in the Red Bull Arena.

Defender Angelino hit the only goal of the game as he capitalised on a corner that broke to the edge of the area and beat Allan McGregor with a longrange strike.

The late defeat was a blow for Rangers after they equipped themselves well and grew into the encounter against the Bundesliga giants.

Boss Van Bronckhorst issued a rallying call to the Ibrox crowd after the first-leg defeat and Tavernier knows the impact that the support could have during a high-stakes second leg.

Tavernier said: “Everyone put in a hell of a shift to nullify their threat and I thought we did that for the majority of the game.

“It is obviously a wonder strike that has unlocked us but it is bad organisation from ourselves to let a man on the edge of the box, which we spoke about, to be free.

“We know we need to rectify that but we know we are still well in this tie.

“To bring it back at home at 1-0… we have been in this position before.

“I have got confidence that we can turn this around back at home with our fans behind us.

“We are going to give it absolutely everything next Thursday to try and get us into a final. We know we created chances, so we know we are going to create more chances back at home.

“I know the boys are a little bit disappointed in the changing room but we can come away from the game knowing that we can be a real threat when they come to our place.”
