White counts County season as a success
IT WAS inevitable Jordan White and his Ross County team-mates would be bitterly disappointed to miss out on a European spot as a sixth-place finish was confirmed in the cinch Premiership.
But it’s not been lost in the Dingwall dressing-room that a remarkable turnaround was required to take them into the top half as they went from relegation candidates to Euro qualification contenders.
The Staggies endured a nightmare start to the season with no wins in their opening 10 matches in the top flight. However, a sensational second half of the season leaves Malky Mackay’s side disappointed to finish sixth.
White hit a consolation strike in a 4-1 loss to Rangers on Wednesday night which ended their European hopes as Dundee United and Motherwell claimed fourth and fifth respectively. And while he’s equally gutted about missing out on bringing continental football to the Highlands, White is optimistic it stands County in good stead ahead of next season.
“There’s a lot of disappointment in there,” he said. “We really felt we could’ve managed to get Europe but it’s not to be and we learn from our mistakes.
“But we take the positives from how well we’ve done to give ourselves that opportunity.
“It’s been brilliant, we’ve come on leaps and bounds.
“At the start of the season we were playing well just not getting the results and think it goes to show if we can take that into next season and we start the season well then we’ve got a right chance.
“The boys are down, it’s really disappointing but I think when we look back and reflect on things, where we’ve come from to where we are now, it’s positive and we can only look to build on that.
“Listen, there are still lessons to be learned.
“I think we’ve still had a really good season and we want to go out on a high.”
