1000 sex offenders living in areas across Glasgow

MORE than 1000 sex offenders are currently living in areas across Greater Glasgow.

Official data released by Police Scotland shows how many registered sex offenders ( RSOs) are living in each postcode.

The data is updated monthly. As of October 2022, there were a total of 1027 RSOs. We previously reported in August that there were a total of 995.

G13, which includes Anniesland and Knightswood, is currently the postcode with the highest number of RSOs – 46.

Meanwhile, the G23 postcode which includes Summerston, has the least – only one. Other areas with the highest figures include Clydebank ( G81) – 45, G32 ( Shettleston/ Tollcross) – 43, G51 ( Govan/ Ibrox) – 40, and Rutherglen/ Cambuslang

( G73) – 40.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Protecting the public is a priority for Police Scotland. While we can never eliminate risk entirely, we want to reassure communities that all reasonable steps are being taken to protect them.

“We put in place measures to minimise the likelihood of further sexual re- offending by RSOs and would seek to re- assure people that sexual re- offending rates remain extremely low.

“RSOs are robustly managed by the police and our partners through the multiagency public protection arrangements and subject to comprehensive risk assessment and risk management in the community. Police Scotland has units of dedicated officers specially trained for this task.”

As of October 31, 2022, Police Scotland had 14 wanted RSOs and 0 missing RSOs.

Officers say that enquiries to date indicate that 12 of the 14 wanted sex offenders have left the UK.
