Thompson operation a blow for Warriors
GLASGOW stand- off Ross Thompson will be out of action until some time in the New Year after needing surgery on the ankle he injured against Leinster last month. It had initially been hoped that Thompson would be able to recuperate without an operation.
“Ross Thompson has undergone successful surgery at Ross Hall Hospital on an ankle injury sustained against Leinster a fortnight ago, with the operation conducted by Mr Bob Carter, Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon,” a statement on the Warriors website said.
“Thompson will now begin his rehabilitation under the supervision of the club’s medical and strength and conditioning team with a view of returning to action in the New Year.”
Prop forwards Zander Fagerson and Oli Kebble are still having their injuries assessed by the medical team at Scotstoun. Fagerson went off with hamstring damage in the first half of the Warriors’ win at Zebre on Saturday, while Kebble injured a shoulder and left the field 15 minutes into the second half.
Back- row forward Jack Dempsey will be out for a short time with a groin injury, and second- row Alex Samuel will likewise be out of action in the short term after picking up a back injury.
Scott Cummings ( foot), Cole Forbes ( neck), Enrique Pieretto ( chest), Allan Dell ( calf), Thomas Gordon ( calf) and Rory Darge ( ankle) are all continuing rehab on their injuries. Sam Johnson is continuing what the statement called “his phased return to training”.
Meanwhile, Duncan Weir has re- joined the squad after recovering from a calf injury. Weir will be available for Glasgow’s opening game of this season’s Challenge Cup campaign, at Bath on Saturday, although head coach Franco Smith appears likely to stick with the two fly- halves who saw action in the win against Zebre at the weekend, Tom Jordan and Domingo Miotti.
