Thug punched woman over drug debt at supermarket

A THUG punched a woman over a drug debt at a supermarket.

Susan Morrice, 44, appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday following the assault which took place at Sainsbury’s in Darnley on May 4, last year.

The prosecutor said: “At midnight, the complainer attended an address to meet with the co- accused Colin Allison, to attempt to settle a drug debt.

“The complainer thereafter, in the company of both accused, attended Sainsbury’s Darnley.

“Morrice walked towards her, punched her, and grabbed her by the hair. The complainer tried to walk away but had been pushed against a wall.”

The woman reported the incident to the police the following day.

It was revealed that she did not require any medical assistance following the assault.

Morrice’s lawyer said: “The debt was owed to Mr Allison and the complainer had not paid this to him. I have no knowledge of this being a drug debt.

“But the day in question, my client went along to assist her friend and acted in the way liable.

“There has been no further contact between my client and the complainer.”

The defence solicitor added: “She appears before you with a record, but not a substantial record.

“Her last conviction was in 2016 and it’s not analogous. The last analogous offence was 19 years ago.

“She has no outstanding cases and would be in a position to carry out an alternative to custody with the exception of unpaid work.”

Sheriff Bernard Ablett told Morrice: “I’m going to impose a community payback order. You’ll be subject to social work supervision for a period of 12 months.

“I will also impose a restriction of liberty order.”

She was tagged and ordered to stay within her home in Darnley between 7pm- 7am for 48 days.
