- BY CONNOR GORDON

ATHUG who scarred his partner for life following a row over a Facebook pi c t u re wa s j a i le d yesterday for 33 months. James Gillies, 27, turned on the woman at a property in Banton, North Lanarkshire, on May 1, last year.

The pair got into a drunken argument before convicted sex offender Gillies headbutted her on the nose.

He then went on to lash out at police officers – striking one on the head with their baton.

Gillies pleaded guilty yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting the woman to her injury and permanent disfigurement.

He also admitted assaults on constables Simeon Krastev and Susan Gilmour as well as breaching his sex offenders register terms.

Gillies had been locked up for 22 months for supplying a 14- year- old with Buckfast and sexually abusing her in Cumbernauld.

The court heard that Gillies did not inform police that he no longer resided at his last known property.

He entered into a three- week relationship with the woman meantime and the pair went to drink at a friend’s house.

Prosecutor Lauren Donnelly said: “An argument took place about a Facebook photo.

“He told the victim that he would end her and her family would do f*** all.

“Miss Hervo pushed him away but Gillies grabbed her by the ears and told her that he would end her.

“He then headbutted the victim causing her nose to bleed.”

The friend noted the woman’s face was “covered in blood” and told Gillies she would phone the police.

He left the scene before officers arrived but was clocked riding a bicycle in Govan two days later and attempted to ride away but was followed on foot by the officers.

He struggled with them and PC Krastev was put in a headlock and escaped with minor injuries. PC Gilmour had her baton taken from her and she was struck to the head causing a small cut. She also suffered bruising and swelling.

John Kilcoyne, defending, told the court: “He was highly intoxicated and is highly embarrassed by his conduct that he could behave that way towards a woman.

“He regrets his behaviour towards the police.”

Sheriff Joan Kerr told Gillies, who appeared from custody, that the matters were “serious”.

A two- year non- harassment order was also granted restricting Gillies’ contact with the woman.
