Volunteers dig deep to help plant trees in park

Ambitious initiative hopes to see 2,000 trees planted in Glasgow

VOLUNTEERS planted dozens of trees at a park in Glasgow to help the environmen­t.

Staff from Enterprise Mobility are laying down roots at Househill Park near Silverburn to benefit the area.

They were joined by up to 90 participan­ts from local schools, community groups, and hard working volunteers.

The event was part of Enterprise Mobility’s Urban Tree Initiative which aims to create more greenspace­s in cities, in collaborat­ion with the Arbor Day Foundation and Trees for Cities.

It will also provide support for children and young people to learn new skills and knowledge on how to take positive action against climate change.

Woodland cover in the UK is one of the lowest in Europe, according to Woodland Trust who are encouragin­g the country to become me more active in increasing it.

Trees help to improve soils as s well as prevent flooding and erosion.

They can also support wildlife and plants in the area.

A Glasgow spokespers­on from Enterprise mobility said: “We want to plant more than 2000 trees in Glasgow as part of our pledge to plant 50 million trees by 2056. This is so we can do our bit for the community.”

Forest is an ambitious tree planting initiative to plant 18 million trees across the city region in the next decade.

“The planting we are doing here at Househill Park is part of that.

“It is dedication that everyone is out here in all weathers, we couldn’t do it without the volunteers.”
