Provan Hall set for works

FURTHER works to improve the area around Glasgow’s oldest house – dating back to the 15th century – are set to go ahead.

Glasgow City Council approved funding for the works which will create a direct access route from the Glasgow Fort to the newly restored Provan Hall ( pictured).

More than £ 85,000 has been allocated to the plans that will benefit a number of projects in the northeast including funding to help improve greenspace in Auchinlea Park and Inishail Road in the city’s Easterhouse and Craigend/ Garthamlock.

New fencing and hedging will be put in place at Provan Hall which recently underwent a £ 3.6 million restoration.

Auchinlea Park, which is home to the historic hall, will see maintenance to its grounds, tree planting and management.

Other plans include the creation of greenspace in the area between

Inishail Road, Avenue End Road and the M8.

Wildflower and bulb planting along with the creation of 24 new trees make up the plans for the Inishail Road space with hopes to create a grass space and woodland.

Councillor Kenny McLean, convener for land use at Glasgow City Council, said: “The approval of the funding raised through local developments will help to bring these improvements to these popular and attractive places in the north- east of the city.

“When complete, the works will make it easier for more people to visit both and for visitors to get more from their time there.”

Works are expected to be finished by Autumn of 2024 with an overall cost of almost £ 160,000 which will be met by the Area Partnership Open Space Fund and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
