Quiz boosts charity
ONE of Glasgow’s most beloved restaurants helped a local charity during a recent fundraiser.
Monir Muhammed, the owner of Mother India, provided free curries to attendees at Maggie’s Glasgow’s quiz night – which was held at the charity’s base on the grounds of Gartnavel General Hospital.
The charity is known for providing professional support to people with a cancer diagnosis in the family. This includes support for individuals who have cancer and support for their family and friends.
Speaking on the quiz event, Monir said: “We feel that Maggie’s is a special place, and the support it gives to people with cancer is humanity at its very best.
“We wanted to help a local charity because we are Glaswegian and very proud to be Scottish.
“We found the atmosphere to be very friendly and welcoming as always.
“My brother Bashir and I have visited the centre during the day when they are delivering cancer
support and of course, in the evening for the curry night.”
This is the second time Monir and Bashir have helped Maggie’s with its quiz event.

“Bringing people together for a fun event like our Curry and Quiz Night gives [ those] who use our centre the opportunity to support us and bring their friends and family along to experience Maggie’s.
“We are very grateful for the support of the team at Mother India which meant that every penny raised on the night will go directly to the running of Maggie’s Glasgow. This will help us to support many more people to live their lives as fully as possible.
“As centre head, it was great to see the centre being enjoyed by so many. In my professional daily life in Maggie’s, I’m used to answering questions, so it was great to become quizmaster for the evening and ask the questions.”
The quiz night raised £ 3200 to support people with cancer and their families.
Maggie’s offers free expert support via its cancer support specialists, clinical psychologists and benefits advisers. There is no appointment necessary and people are encouraged to “just come in”.
